Memphis Wrestling predicts Elimination Chamber 2023
Bold insight and tough calls from our panel of experts
This year’s installment of the Elimination Chamber takes place this Saturday, February 18 in Montreal, Canada. As always, WWE fans are invited to join Memphis Wrestling for a FREE watch party at Dave & Buster’s to celebrate!
For each major wrestling PPV/PLE, Memphis Wrestling Plus will assemble a panel of experts to astutely predict the results. The panel for the 2023 Elimination Chamber is “The Problem Child” Aaron Roberts, “The Goddess of the Night” Nyxx, Mackenzie Morgan, Matt Williams and Memphis Wrestling Plus editor J.D. Reager.
WWE Universal Championship: Roman Reigns (c) vs. Sami Zayn
Aaron Roberts: My brain tells one thing while my heart tells me another. This is probably the hardest pick on the card. Is Sami getting a big win in Montreal? Or even worse, is Jey Uso turning on Sami, causing him to lose?
Pick: Roman Reigns
Nyxx: While they have really been building this up, I don’t think it’s the platform that Roman is going to lose the championship. Crazier things have happened, but “The Head of the Table” is still just that. However, I don’t think it’s the last we’ll see of Zayn and Reigns going head to head on this level. Something big is coming.
Pick: Roman Reigns
Mackenzie Morgan: I think that Sami Zayn will look like a threat to Roman. But, he’ll get too fired up and then slip on a banana peel, and Roman will capitalize off Sami’s one mistake.
Pick: Roman Reigns
Matt Williams: The comeback story for Cody is better against a heel tyrant. It doesn't make sense to do the switch here. I love Sami and hope he gets a title run in the future.
Pick: Roman Reigns
J.D. Reager: I have gone back-and-forth on this. I really WANT to believe that Triple H would put the belt on Sami going into WrestleMania - but, I honestly don’t. And maybe the better story ends up being Sami and Kevin dethroning The Usos.
Pick: Roman Reigns
Men's Elimination Chamber (U.S. Championship): Austin Theory (c) vs. Seth Rollins vs. Johnny Gargano vs. Bronson Reed vs. Damian Priest vs. Montez Ford
Aaron Roberts: I think this is a chance to move certain people into feuds for ‘Mania. Seth and Logan Paul, getting Austin away from the title, adding fuel to the Profits split. . . I could See Gargano and Reed wrestling for this title at ‘Mania. So who better to beat Theory than his dad?
Pick: Johnny Gargano
Nyxx: This line up is crazy! But I’m thinking that Ford is about to really step into being a singles competitor more and him holding the U.S. Championship would be nice to see. It makes me wonder about how Dawkins will take it, though. . .
Pick: Montez Ford
Mackenzie Morgan: Montez Ford has started to film his reality TV show with his wife Bianca Belair. I wouldn’t put it past WWE to put the title on him, just for the sake of the show. But, realistically, I know in my heart that Austin Theory will weasel his way to victory.
Pick: Austin Theory
Matt Williams: I see Theory vs. Cena at ‘Mania. Seth vs. Logan Paul. Neither of those matches need the title for the match to "matter." So, do we "make" in this match? Bronson Reed takes it home and becomes an unstoppable mid-card monster.
Pick: Bronson Reed
J.D. Reager: If Cena is really Austin Theory’s opponent at WrestleMania, that match doesn’t need the U.S. title tied to it, it has plenty of stakes on its own. That opens the door for anything.
Pick: Montez Ford
Women's Elimination Chamber: Raquel Rodriguez vs. Liv Morgan vs. Nikki Cross vs. Asuka vs. Natalya vs. Carmella
(winner challenges Bianca Belair at Wrestlemania)
Aaron Roberts: This one seems the most obvious to me - Natalya duh. Nah, I’m just playing. Asuka with her new character is the perfect person to beat Belair.
Pick: Asuka
Nyxx: This recent version of Asuka we’ve been seeing lately is definitely up to give Bianca a run for her money on the grandest stage of them all. That special level of crazy that Asuka unlocked is bound to take out everyone in that chamber.
Pick: Asuka
Mackenzie Morgan: It’s gonna come down to the final two competitors, Liv and Asuka. Asuka will win and face Belair at ‘Mania.
Pick: Asuka
Matt Williams: If it isn't Asuka, we riot! Give me NXT Asuka NOW!
Pick: Asuka
J.D. Reager: MURDER CLOWN!
Pick: Asuka
Brock Lesnar vs. Bobby Lashley
Aaron Roberts: These two are so back and forth it’s annoying. I think they will use this to fully reform The Hurt Business.
Pick: Bobby Lashley
Nyxx: This is a tough one. “The Beast” and “The Almighty.” I think that they’re going to give each other a run for their money. But I also feel like Bobby is going to continue to use mind games and ultimately get one over on Brock.
Pick: Bobby Lashley
Mackenzie Morgan: The Hurt Business will reunite and jump Lesnar.
Pick: Bobby Lashley
Matt Williams: Interesting match. . . I normally don't bet against Lesnar, but today I do. Hurt Business reunion to help Bobby get the W against Brock.
Pick: Bobby Lashley
J.D. Reager: If I could pick “no contest/DQ,” I would, but that feels a little like a copout. In lieu of that - it’s hard for me to see WWE beating Brock Lesnar clean going into the WrestleMania.
Pick: Brock Lesnar
Edge & Beth Phoenix vs. Finn Balor & Rhea Ripley
Aaron Roberts: The natural answer is Edge and Beth due to the storyline. But do you really think they will beat Rhea on the road to mania? I don’t know, this one is shaky - Edge pins Balor due to Dom.
Pick: Edge & Beth Phoenix
Nyxx: This one is tough too. While I have a personal soft spot for the “Grit Couple,” and I’m fully aware of what they’re capable of, Balor and Ripley are also a force to be reckoned with. Plus, The Judgement Day always has something up their sleeve, so I see them taking whatever advantage they can to get one over on Edge and Beth.
Pick: Finn Balor & Rhea Ripley
Mackenzie Morgan: Aside from Bianca Belair, who’s in her own lane right now, I believe Beth Phoenix is the only legitimate threat to Rhea Ripley.
Pick: Edge & Beth Phoenix
Matt Williams: I have a lot of conflicting thoughts on how to do this match. WAY too much to write and explain, so I'll just pick. . . . Edge and Beth. Maybe it’s not how I want it to go, but it is how I think it'll play out.
Pick: Edge & Beth Phoenix
J.D. Reager: No way they beat Rhea ahead of her match with Charlotte Flair. Edge gets his solo revenge on Balor at WrestleMania.
Pick: Finn Balor & Rhea Ripley
