K Toomer: success on his own terms
The "Master of Fatjitsu" speaks on winning the Grind City Rumble and challenging for the Memphis Heritage Championship
On episode 101, the “Master of Fatjitsu” K Toomer overcame all odds and opponents - including former IMPACT World Champion Moose - to claim victory in the Grind City Rumble and thus earn a future shot at the Memphis Heritage Championship.
Toomer, who will get his title match this Saturday at SUPER BOUT, spoke to Memphis Wrestling Plus about his big Rumble win, the prospect of facing off with “The GunShow,” and more.
Memphis Wrestling Plus: Congratulations on winning the Grind City Rumble. With so many participants and variable elements in a match like that, what kind of preparation can you do leading up to it?
K Toomer: Man, I might be giving away my secret, but I sit and study everybody. How they move, the types of moves they use, even down to personality quirks. That combined with the belief that I am the baddest mofo lowdown on this town, I knew what was needed to pull this off. For a while now that Memphis Heritage Championship has been in my sights, but I needed to work towards it by making every little thing I do in the ring speak ten times louder than my words ever could. That way, when the time came for me to challenge for title it couldn't be argued. Dropping body after body almost created a savage mindset - not only for myself when I step in the ring, but also a bloodlust for the people in the crowd wanting to see how I'm gonna drop my opponents.
You seemed to get emotional speaking to the live crowd afterwards - what was going through your mind at the time?
